Welcome back to D&D classes 101, the 14 part series where I give you a bite-sized breakdown of the various class of Dungeons and Dragons! Today we are covering the statistically most popular class in the D&D universe, the Fighter.
Yeah, it surprised me too, but according to D&D beyond, Roll20 and several other sources, the Fighter is the number one most played class. this class dishes out serious damage, has excellent survivability, and is exceptionally beginner-friendly. The Fighter does exactly what it says on the tin; it fights, and it fights HARD. Fighters are the skilled weapons experts of the D&D world. You get to pick a Fighting style to boost your choice of weapon and a Martial Archetype, to spice up the kind of Fighter you want to be. You could be a mounted horseback cavalier charging down your enemy or an eldritch knight for some sweet spellcasting goodness.
The Fighters ability’s excel at hitting things as hard and as many times as possible. Action Surge allows you to take a second action on your turn so you can hit more things. Second Wind lets you heal yourself based on your level so you can stay alive to hit more things. Oh, you also have the most ability score increases of any class to make you better at, you know, hitting things!
Feel like living out that grimdark fantasy hero dream you keep having, you’ll need to pick a weapon. Make either strength or dexterity your highest ability score depending on the weapon you choose, and I’d recommend making your second highest stat constitution for extra Health and durability. May no foe stand in your way!
